Overheard . . .

. . . at Stake Enrichment meeting last night (speaker: Fred Riley):

"The way to tell whether you truly love someone: you care more about that person's relationship with himself than you do about his relationship with you."

I'm still pondering how this applies to my teaching and, especially, to my family relationships. This is BIG!

p.s. I'm outa here. Hope you all enjoy the snow. See you in about two weeks!

huh? I'm supposed to care more about my husband's relationship to himself than his relationship to me??!!

That makes no sense. I'm going back to resenting the 12 hours a week he's spending loading his new iPod.

I like the quote too.

Have fun. I will *really* try to enjoy the snow.

I would like the quote better if it were "relationship to Heavenly Father" in place of relationship with self, (I know some people who are on great terms with themselves -- but with no one else,) but I'm sure that's the way it was meant, and as such it's a very useful thought.

Johnna, I think he means that we do what is really best for that person. Is it best to condone their selfishness? Is it best to let them walk all over you? You do whatever is best for them longterm.
