A little quote for you

"The bad poet is usually unconscious where he ought to be conscious, and conscious where he ought to be unconscious." -T. S. Eliot

The same could also be said of mothers. Or fathers. Or nuclear power plant technicians.

It reminds me of another quote of his, up on the wall of the National Gallery: "Immature poets imitate; mature poets steal" I thought it was showing a sense of humor, but it turns out to be a defense of his inserting quotes and references wholesale into his work.
Maybe a sense of humor is for post-post modern poets?
